Finally caught up: Take 2

Here's something fun we got to see: Helicopter rotor blade tracking. The mechanic was checking if the blades were in track (balanced and spinning in the right direction/ place).

So now I'm finally caught up!

LORD’S DAY 10
27 Q. What do you understand by the providence of God?

A. The almighty and ever present power of God 1 by which God upholds, as with his hand, heaven
and earth and all creatures,2 and so rules them that leaf and blade, rain and drought, fruitful and lean years, food and drink, health and sickness, prosperity and poverty—3 all things, in fact, come to us
not by chance4 but by his fatherly hand.5

1 Jer. 23:23-24; Acts 17:24-28
2 Heb. 1:3
3 Jer. 5:24; Acts 14:15-17; John 9:3; Prov. 22:2
4 Prov. 16:33
5 Matt. 10:29

28 Q. How does the knowledge of God’s creation and providence help us?
A. We can be patient when things go against us,1 thankful when things go well,2 and for the future we can have good confidence in our faithful God and Father that nothing in creation will separate us from his love.3 For all creatures are so completely in God’s hand that without his will they can neither move nor be moved.4

1 Job 1:21-22; James 1:3
2 Deut. 8:10; 1 Thess. 5:18
3 Ps. 55:22; Rom. 5:3-5; 8:38-39

Sheetmetal and sunshine!

The sun came out yesterday! and it even got up to 50F! That's amazing!

Lately we have been doing large sheetmetal projects. I am working with Jamin on remaking a wing skin for an Ercoupe (an older plane). We are remaking the skin where you step on the wing to get into the cockpit. The plan was in a crash at some point I think and so now we are doing repairs (more for practice rather than actual flying use). We de-riveted the old skin and used that as a template for the new skin. We then cut that out and drilled all the holes exactly as they are. The 3rd picture is what it looks like under the part where you step. The corregated metal makes it really strong. In the 4th picture Jamin in carefully putting the new skin in place to double check all the measurements and holes. Now we are ready to rivet the new skin on.

God the Father

LORD’S DAY 9
26 Q. What do you believe when you say, “I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth”?

A. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and everything in them, 1 who still upholds and rules them by his eternal counsel and providence, 2 is my God and Father because of Christ the Son. 3

I trust God so much that I do not doubt he will provide whatever I need for body and soul, 4 and will turn to my good whatever adversity he sends upon me in this sad world. 5 God is able to do this because he is almighty God 6 and desires to do this because he is a faithful Father. 7

Someday I'll catch up...

SMAT from the air! It's a snowy town out there.

My apologies... I am not on top of my game with posting these. This entire weekend I was out and about- working on renovating a house for a friend, church, and flying. But it's a short one this time.

LORD’S DAY 8
24 Q. How are these articles divided?

A. Into three parts:
God the Father and our creation;
God the Son and our deliverance;
and God the Holy Spirit and our sanctification.

25 Q. Since there is only one divine being, why do you speak of three: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

A. Because that is how God has revealed himself in his Word: these three distinct persons are one, true, eternal God.

Deut. 6:4; 1 Cor. 8:4, 6
Matt. 3:16-17; 28:18-19; Luke 4:18 (Isa. 61:1); John 14:26; 15:26; 2 Cor. 13:14; Gal. 4:6;

Back on track!

Sorry for the delay. All I can say is that time flies.
Flight hangar! Worldwide it's where we're going! Ps my favorite is the 4th from the left!
We've been working on the airplanes this week. We got to take off the wings and tail components and now we are in the process of putting them back on again and making sure everything is in the right spot and has the right tension or torque (tightness).

The fuselage I helped mask also got painted! It looks really good! :)

I'm planning on catching up with the catechism this week so stay tuned I'll try and post the following ones on Monday and Tuesday.

LORD’S DAY 7
20 Q. Are all people then saved through Christ just as they were lost through Adam?
A. No. Only those are saved who through true faith are grafted into Christ and accept all his benefits.

Matt. 7:14; John 3:16, 18, 36; Rom. 11:16-21

21 Q. What is true faith?A. True faith is not only a sure knowledge by which I hold as true all that God has revealed to us in Scripture; it is also a wholehearted trust, which the Holy Spirit creates in me by the gospel, that God has freely granted, not only to others but to me also, forgiveness of sins, eternal righteousness, and salvation. These are gifts of sheer grace, granted solely by Christ’s merit.

John 17:3, 17; Heb. 11:1-3; James 2:19
Rom. 4:18-21; 5:1; 10:10; Heb. 4:14-16
Matt. 16:15-17; John 3:5; Acts 16:14
Rom. 1:16; 10:17; 1 Cor. 1:21
Gal. 2:20
Rom. 1:17; Heb. 10:10
Rom. 3:21-26; Gal. 2:16; Eph. 2:8-10

22 Q. What then must a Christian believe?A. All that is promised us in the gospel, a summary of which is taught us in the articles of our  universal and undisputed Christian faith.

Matt. 28:18-20; John 20:30-31

23 Q. What are these articles?
A. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. [The Apostles Creed]

*Snow delay*

Flying with Christ blogposts have been postponed due to the snow.
Blizzard just after school. Most of these cars are being warmed up!
... but not really... I was out of town this weekend and today the snow has come down like a thick duvet so we've been busy snow shoveling, and getting cars unstuck from the snow. In the last 5 hours we've had 6-8" dumped on us and it's still coming down. Pray for safety!
Blizzard as school was getting out. Several cars in this picture were all warming up.

OUR God is AMAZING!

It's been another crazy busy week! But I guess that's life.
We finished Landing Gear class last week and will finish Hydraulics this week. Up next is Assembly and Rigging, Communication and Navigation, and we're still in Sheet Metal class.
In Assembly and Rigging we get to take apart the wings and other parts of airplanes and then put them back on again. Sounds like fun!

We had a lot going on at SMAT this week. On Tuesday we watched the live debate between Ken Ham (founder of the Creation museum) and Bill Nye (an evolutionist/ scientist). You can look it up at http://debatelive.org/. It was quite an interesting debate and it shows that our foundation is on a solid rock and we can rejoice that we know our personal creator and see his creation in EVERYTHING. There is no way that so much diversity could come from just some gas bubbles in the ocean. God's beauty is marvelous and indescribable.

.
Riveting projects (Practice on the left and good piece on the right- except for the triple staggered row).

Masking off the plane to be painted.

Taking apart my alternator which unfortunately had to be replaced.
Here are some things you can pray for:
- Upcoming exams: We can begin taking our Oral and Practical tests sometime in March, which requires a lot of studying. Pray that I will be diligent in studying and not worry about the test.
- Jobs: I am beginning to look for jobs for after school and what God has in store for me. Pray that I will not worry about this either and that I will trust in God and where He is leading me.
- Adoption: Pray that the adoption process will go faster and that these kiddos can come home soon- simply pray for God's right timing.
- School: Some of the things we are doing now, such as sheet metal, are really challenging for me. Pray that I won't get frustrated and angry but that I will just keep going and learn patience.
THANK YOU!

LORD'S DAY 6

16 Q. Why must the mediator be a true and righteous human?
A. God’s justice demands that human nature, which has sinned, must pay for sin; but a sinful human could never pay for others.

1 Rom. 5:12, 15; 1 Cor. 15:21; Heb. 2:14-16
2 Heb. 7:26-27; 1 Pet. 3:18

17 Q. Why must the mediator also be true God?
A. So that the mediator, by the power of his divinity, might bear the weight of God’s wrath in his humanity and earn for us and restore to us righteousness and life.

Isa. 53; John 3:16; 2 Cor. 5:21

18 Q. Then who is this mediator— true God and at the same time a true and righteous human?
A. Our Lord Jesus Christ, who was given to us to completely deliver us and make us right with God.

Matt. 1:21-23; Luke 2:11; 1 Tim. 2:5
1 Cor. 1:30

19 Q. How do you come to know this?
A. The holy gospel tells me. God began to reveal the gospel already in Paradise; later God proclaimed it by the holy patriarchs and prophets and foreshadowed it by the sacrifices and other ceremonies of the law; and finally God fulfilled it through his own beloved Son.

1 Gen. 3:15
2 Gen. 22:18; 49:10
3 Isa. 53; Jer. 23:5-6; Mic. 7:18-20; Acts 10:43; Heb. 1:1-2
4 Lev. 1-7; John 5:46; Heb. 10:1-10
5 Rom. 10:4; Gal. 4:4-5; Col. 2:17

Praise GOD for His saving grace! We get to worship the all powerful God and creator. What a blessing!

Snow upon snow upon snow. 2" had fallen within the first 2 hours of school on top of another 2" from the night.

Learning in life.

This week was a week of learning (not that every other week I don't learn stuff). I learned a lot about God's faithful plan and how He takes care of us every single day. We started doing riveting in sheet metal class and right now it's just not that riveting, pun intended. Every time I start something new in class I tend to be very frustrated and annoyed because it is not going right or I mess things up. I ask my instructor if this is ok... and he gives me that look like "definitely Not". ARG! Redo the whole thing. I am learning to relax and have a lot of patience. This cycle keeps on happening with all the classes we begin and from now on I'm going to try my hardest to try my hardest- and not get frustrated so easily. When I start to get it right I begin enjoying it more.

I was also reminded that God has a perfect plan for me and sometimes things just take time and they will fall into place when they need to. On facebook I jokingly put a status that said "62 degrees in Tennessee and wind chill of 14 with 6" of snow falling here... someone please tell me why I'm here?" Well, even though it's cold that doesn't matter. I'm reminded everyday that I am here to glorify the Lord and to serve Him with the talent I have and the skills I am learning.

Here are some snap shots of the week:
Looking up old service manuals on the microfiche.

Blizzard in Ionia- The greyish building in the background is Walmart (600ft (200m) away)

Alternator for my car.
I fixed my alternator for my car! One of the brushes needed to be replaced but I ended up just getting a new voltage regulator which was easier. So after a week my car can finally drive again!

I also got to work on masking a REAL airplane for painting! The mechanics in the other hangar are working on putting a paint scheme on a new airplane so I got to help them mask it out with tape. At the beginning of the year, our instructors advised us to find a area of mechanics that we really like and are good at it and stick with that one. I think mine is drawing/ drafting and planning and painting. I like figuring out where things need to go in design and sketching it out. I think I got some of those skill from my Opa (grandpa) who used to do restoration and drafting/design of old buildings. We'll see as the year goes on what God has in store for me!

Now let's see what He has in store for us this week. Heidelberg Catechism

Part II: Deliverance
LORD’S DAY 5

12 Q. According to God’s righteous judgment we deserve punishment both now and in eternity:
how then can we escape this punishment and return to God’s favor?

A. God requires that his justice be satisfied. Therefore the claims of this justice must be paid in full, either by ourselves or by another.

13 Q. Can we make this payment ourselves?
A. Certainly not. Actually, we increase our debt every day.

1 Matt. 6:12; Rom. 2:4-5

14 Q. Can another creature—any at all—pay this debt for us?
A. No. To begin with, God will not punish any other creature for what a human is guilty of. Furthermore, no mere creature can bear the weight of God’s eternal wrath against sin and deliver others from it.

1 Ezek. 18:4, 20; Heb. 2:14-18
2 Ps. 49:7-9; 130:3

15 Q. What kind of mediator and deliverer should we look for then?

A. One who is a true and righteous human, yet more powerful than all creatures, that is, one who is also true God- JESUS CHRIST!

1 Rom. 1:3; 1 Cor. 15:21; Heb. 2:17
2 Isa. 53:9; 2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 7:26
3 Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Jer. 23:6; John 1:1

Praise God that we have a redeemer who pays our debt for us! Jesus Christ the Messiah!
